Favorite Things

Last night, as I went to bed, I was thinking about what to write today. I thought I had accessed all my knowledge, but then I began thinking about my favorite things. What I enjoy. What I will take extra steps to do or see.

Here are a few of the things I love.

1. My family. I love to talk to my family, or look at the pictures of them, or visit with them. I have one granddaughter who will only talk to me when she has something to tell me. Other than that, it is always a "No" when her dad, my son, asks if she wants to talk to me. I am always surprised when she wants to talk. The oldest granddaughter and oldest grandson will talk to us anytime we call. Sometimes they want to talk and their parents will dial the phone and it is always a good feeling when they are on the other line. They are growing up too fast.

2. Going to church. Besides my family, I love being with my church family. We go to a very small congregation. Everyone feels so close to us and I love seeing them and talking to them. The closeness of being with God's children is beyond words. My week does not go well if I am not in church.

3. Reading my Bible. I try to read each day, and during the day, I am thinking about what I have read. I do not do much memorizing, but I should. I think about all that has happened to me, and everything that the Lord has blessed me with and I am so thankful. The least I can do is to give Him some of my time each day.

4. Sunsets and sunrises. I love to see a sunset or a sunrise. We live on a hill and as I look out of the front of the house, I see hills in the distance, and between those hills is the Holston River. I love when the sun rises and I can see the fog coming up from the river. How can anyone not believe in God? No thing could make this beauty but God.

5. Friends. I love all my friends. Some of them I have never met, but I write to them via email. Some I have met and I love talking or seeing them. We live in such a hurry world, that we sometimes forget about our friends. I will say one thing. If I don't get to talk to you, I am thinking about you.

6. Modern medicine. In the last two and a half years, we have had two relatives who have had transplants. My niece had a kidney transplant during the summer. I am so thankful to the lady who was so nice to give her kidney to my niece. Both of them are doing well. Two years ago, my cousin had a liver transplant. I am so thankful for the family that gave their loved ones liver to her. Also, the National Guard who got my cousin to the hospital in a snowstorm and on Christmas Day. Modern medicine is wonderful.

As you can see, we all have a lot to be thankful for. There are more things, chocolate, strawberries, butterscotch pie, pecan pie. See, most of mine are sweet. We can all find something to be thankful for. Make this a Thankful Day.
