Whispers of the Bayou
Usually Saturdays are a day for catch-up for me, cleaning house, laundry, etc. Today I wanted to tell you about a book I finished yesterday.
When I attended the Blue Ridge Mountain Christian Writers Conference, I had a 15 minute interview with Mindy Starns Clark. She was very encouraging to me with my writing and also suggested I might want to read her book about the Cajuns. I have friends in Louisiana, but except for reading Evangeline in school and hearing him talk some, I knew nothing about them. I do know that Cajun cooking is HOT.
While at the conference, I purchased Mindy's book and waited until I arrived home to read it. After my family left on Monday, I dove into it. It was very suspenseful and full of Cajun history. I finished it yesterday and I found I was sorry to have it end.
The book is very well written. Mindy does a good job of bringing the characters to life and peeling back the character's inner being. I'm not that fast a reader, but I could not put it down, especially at night. Mindy also gave a lot of history and superstitions about the Cajuns. I will keep it as a reference for writing historicals.
