Is It too Hot to Write?

The heat index is climbing here in the mountains. I had a 98.1 degree for yesterday and that is hot!

I try to find a cool place to write and so far there are not many. My house is brick and it holds the heat. The AC is running a lot, but I am cooler than I would be outside. The Lord knows what He is doing. We should appreciate the cooler days more when we have them.

This week-end I started reading "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Writing Christian Fiction" by Ron Benrey. He signed it at Blue Ridge Mountain Christian Writers Conference as "A fellow fiction idiot." I have felt that way for some time, but I didn't expect him to recognize it. I thought I had hidden it pretty well.

So far, I have learned from what I have read. A lot of it is refreshing my memory. Writing takes a lot of studying of the craft. When I write "craft" I usually think of witchcraft. I don't study that.

As I walk through my life, I want to learn each day. My mother used to tell us that we needed to learn something new each day. Finally at this point in my life, I am believing her. When you learn, your mind stays active and alive. I have noticed that people who stay active are readers and participants. They are active individuals. That's what I want to be.

I continue to read. Last week, I read "Allison's Journey" by Wanda Brunstetter. I have always enjoyed her books and this one was no exception. I look forward to her new books coming out.

My novel is going slow, but I have made progress with my characters. Today will be another work day with more progress being made, so, I am back to another century or two. Yes, historical and romance coming on strong. I love it!
